Lincoln Trail Volleyball Earns All-Conference Honors

Lincoln Trail Community College is proud to announce that two athletes from the Statesmen volleyball team have been recognized on the All-Conference team. Head Coach Dana Goodwin expressed great pride in the team's accomplishments and the recognition received by these standout players.

"It is an honor to have multiple athletes from Lincoln Trail recognized on the All-Conference team," said Coach Goodwin. "The girls put in so much work and dedication throughout the season, so it is great to see that it did not go unnoticed by the other coaches."

Qualities That Set Them Apart

When asked about the qualities that distinguish these athletes from their peers, Coach Goodwin highlighted the unwavering commitment and consistency of Leigh and Lidia.

"Leigh and Lidia are both individuals that will give it their all no matter what the score is," Coach Goodwin stated. "They were my most consistent players all season and maintained positive attitudes on the court."

Impact on Team Performance and Culture

Both Leigh and Lidia played pivotal roles in the team's success this season. Coach Goodwin detailed their contributions:

• Leigh: A versatile 6-rotation athlete, Leigh excelled as both a setter and hitter. Her efforts were crucial in both the front and back rows, ending the season with a remarkable 276 kills and 425 assists.

  "Our hitters relied heavily on her in the back row to get to the ball in order to put up a good set, and she was a weapon for us in the front row on the right side," said Coach Goodwin.

• Lidia: As the team's libero, Lidia dominated defensively with 544 digs and led in service aces with 48. Her exceptional ability to adjust and deliver perfect passes made her an indispensable asset on the court.

  "When our block was off, we knew we could count on Lidia to adjust and still make a playable pass. She also had a wicked serve and was excellent at placing the ball to targeted zones," noted Coach Goodwin.

Growth and Development

Coach Goodwin also reflected on the tremendous growth exhibited by Leigh and Lidia throughout the season. Transitioning from high school to collegiate volleyball is no small feat, but these athletes embraced the challenge.

"Both athletes have gained so much confidence on the court throughout this season. It can be a huge adjustment going from the high school to collegiate level, but Leigh and Lidia both jumped in head-on, striving to play their best every single game," said Coach Goodwin.

Looking Ahead to Next Season

As freshmen, Leigh and Lidia have set a high standard for their teammates. Leigh's additional honor as an All-Region player underscores the exceptional talent on the Lincoln Trail team.

"With Leigh and Lidia both being freshmen and making the All-Conference team (Leigh made All-Region as well), I think it sets the bar with the team for next season," Coach Goodwin remarked. "I hope it motivates athletes to strive to earn this type of recognition, and I hope Leigh and Lidia maintain their drive in order to get recognized again next season. I think with both girls coming back next year, they will be able to act as leaders on the team and instill some of their qualities into the incoming freshmen."
